Many of you were in service a few weeks ago when we instituted a ban on Christmas music. I have some good news to share, from text conversation with Trevor earlier today:
So, I guess we’ll see what happens. The “most wonderful time of the year” is about to get started!
A Few More Dots to Connect
It has been exciting to walk through the Old Testament narrative over the past few weeks – stories of faith and doubt, struggle and victory, deliverance and destiny. We aren’t done yet! David and Daniel are still two more “dots” that need to be connected to give the full picture of God’s redemptive plan, from the Garden of Eden up through the birth of Jesus. I want to give a shout-out to Rob and Spencer, who manage our sound/tech, as they have set up a great site online for you to listen to any of our messages – either on your computer or on your mobile device via podcast. So, if you missed any of the “dots” that need connecting, just jump over to berriencenter.churchand get caught up.
Candlelight Christmas Eve
Speaking of the birth of Jesus, we do have a special treat planned for Christmas Eve this year, and I hope you’ll pray about bringing family, friends, and neighbors with you to experience the wonder of the season. Remember, December 25th is a Sunday – we aren’t having church that morning at all. Church services that week have been moved to December 24th, at 4:30 and 6:00 p.m. Also, don’t miss the exciting and creative choir production on December 18th at 6 p.m.
This Sunday was one that I’ve been looking forward to – the time when we’d officially announce our plans to creatively reach every household in our community. I’m REALLY excited that God has made the way for us to do this, and that by this time next year, our entire community will have heard about the Bible’s life-changing truth. On December 4th, I’ll offer some additional specifics on the magazines, web components, and neighborhood-reaching plans we have in mind.
I am really grateful to the Elders, Deacons, and fellow staff here at BCBC for their enthusiastic heart toward the Great Commission, and their willingness to help lead us forward in that area. My prayer now is that you and every member of your family will be excited as well, at the mission we can accomplish together. I remember that old saying I learned in school: “TEAM means ‘together everyone achieves more.’ I think the LifeChange outreach is a perfect example of that dynamic. By combining our time, talents, and treasures together, we can reach out to our community in a fresh and compelling way. I hope you’ll join the TEAM.
Melissa and I really want to express our gratitude for BCBC, and the way God led all of us together just one year ago. (Has it felt like a long time, or a short time?) A year ago, I came and preached a fill-in message about “saying Yes to God.” Little did I know that only a few months later I’d be saying “yes” to His call at the church, in what has become such a joy in our lives – getting to know you all, building friendships, talking about the mission, teaching and pastoring – wow. We are so glad. Thank you Lord. And, thank you BCBC family.
I’m sure as you reflect on your year there is plenty to be thankful for as well. If you have a moment, jump over to our Berrien Center Bible Church Facebook page and post two or three reasons you are giving thanks this weekend!
